How do I clean the gas tank?

I have had my 9n about a month and a half now. I have ran about 3 tanks of gas through it. Every time I am getting low on fuel, it starts acting up, i.e. running a little funny, hard to start, so on.
The first time that it did it I rebuilt the carb and cleaned the fuel line. I found sediment in the bowl, so I removed the fuel shut off valve and found a bunch of dirt and crud in the valve. When the tank drained there was a bunch of dirt and stuff in the gas that came out.
When I put everything back together everything worked great until about the end of my next tank of gas. I have done this three times now thinking that it will eventually clean all the old crud out.
Is this the only way to clean it out? Or, is there something else that I should know?

You got years of rust and dirt in there.

I took mine to a radiator cleaning company. They cleaned it and put a liner in it for about $45.

Some have taken it off, put some good degreaser , some bolts or a piece of chain to rattle around and strap it to a jacked up tractor tire and let her spin for a while and flush that way for a while and then put a liner in it. They sell a kit at TSC and other places.

A new tank will end you pain... Your old tank can be fixed better than new but its a lot of work to do it right... Good clean gas is hard to beat,,, a dirty rusty tank will win every time theirs no end to it...

If you are will'n to go the extra mile clean and line,,, if not replace with a new are known good tank...

BTW the chain trick is useless on a N tank the front and rear of the tank has a baffle plate that separates the front and rear...

I checked with a local radiator r eplace company and it would have been more to clean it out than to buy a new one. I cleaned it out with nuts and bolts and strapped to tractor tire, then used a lining kit. All said and done, if I have to do it again, I will buy a new tank and be done with it.

A way to use your tank without sediment is to open the cutoff valve all the way. The top of the access is about 1 in. above the gas. Do not use the reserve (two turns on) as this allows any sediment, etc. below the one inch level to enter the supply system.

I think you have it backwards. reserve fuel is all the way open and gets fuel from the bottom of the ank

Go get it boiled at a radiator shop or machine shop. Buy a qt. of KREEM tank liner and use it on it. You will be long gone before it has a problem.
