12 to 6 volt dropping resistor

Does any one know what resistor to use after the original ballast resistor to use when using a front mount square 6 volt coil on 12 volt system conversion. My resistor just died and I can't remember what I had used for the voltage dropping resistor. I have an Auto Value, Car Quest and NAPA nearby. NAPA is the farthest.
Thanks
Bill

WSMM.........RU-2 is common 12-to-6V converting resistor used with the MANDATORY "infamous ballast resistor" with 4-nipple 6-volt squarecan frontmount ignition coil. ........Dell, a 12V advocate for the right reason, who knows 8-ways to convert to 12-volts and they all work the first time

I use the O'Reilly's VR-1. Easy to hide of you have a hole in the dash or other such place and that hole works as a heat sink

Dell,
Do you have any write ups on your ways to convert to 12 volt that work all the time? Mine has been running good until this past winter. Seems now like it dosen't want to start or run unless you jump around the 12 volt dropping resistor. Not about to leave it that way or run it very long as I don't want to burn up a coil. What voltage reading should you get from the output of the dropping resistor to ground?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill.........NO, unfortunately I don't have enny write-ups to convert to 12-volts. Do a search for JMOR who has published several good pictorial drawings to convert to 12-volts.

You ask......."What voltage reading should you get from the output of the dropping resistor to ground?".......would you believe 1/2 the applied battery voltage? That means about 6-volts for a 12-volt battery. When the points are CLOSED! When the points are OPEN, you will read the 12-volt battery volts. Ittza LAW, Kirchhoff's Law. ........Dell
