picked up a 1989 f250 7.3 lt deisel to haul my tractor with and the glow plugs dont work. some one bypassed the ignition switch with a push button to start it with. when i turn on the key the glow plug relay clicks like it is supposed to and in about 15 seconds it clicks again but no power goes to the glow plugs, but when i push the button to crank the truck i get juice to the glow plugs. any one familiar with one of these

for now you could put in another relay and push button. do a preheat then start.. till you figure the wireing out.. and if it is just a key switch issue..e tc..

cant figure it out yet .no pwer going to either of the large post on the relay at any time. unless im wrong the left large post should be hot at lesa teven if nothing else was working

Go to www.ford-trucks.com. Scroll down through their list of Forums until you find the forum for the Pre-Powerstroke 6.9L and 7.3L IDI Diesels. At the very top of the forum is a "sticky" covering the glow plug system. Be sure you"re on the "87 and later glow plug system because it"s different fom the "86 and earlier system. I"d post a link but this computer won"t allow it.
