The dab of grease that you should put on the rubbing block of the points....is that the same as dielectric grease? Also should I put a drop of 3 in 1 oil on the post that then point rotate on?

The correct grease is easy to find. NAPA carries it. p/n ML-1

The last thing you want is 3:1 oil on your points. Do not use dielectric either.

If you can't wait to put it back together, use a dab of bearing grease until you get the points lube.

Steve.........NO OIL on ignition post as it will "migrate" to yer points and they will BURN!!!
Yes, use dielectric grease for rubbing block on points. As the old haircream advertized "a little dab will do you" ........bald headed Dell

Aerogel is in the capsule that comes with points. I use petroleum jelly if the points lack the capsule.

I just use plumbers grease - available from any hardware store or big box store like Home Depot, etc.
It comes in a plastic tube now.
One advantage it has is it's waterproof so if your tractor gets dunked in the river it wont wash off.

I would stick to Napa , Bosch , or mallory cam lube myself especially since most part stores have it or can get it .

Auto Zone lists :
Mallory/.25 oz. cam grease
Number: 26015
Category: Grease
Type: Distributor

It wasn't easy to find but it was there .

I would want something that is high temp so it will say on and something that is not flamable .

Here's part of a Wikipedia atricel on dielectric grease , you be your own judge .

Dielectric greaseDielectric grease is electrically insulating and does not break down when high voltage is applied. It is often applied to electrical connectors, particularly those containing rubber gaskets, as a means of lubricating and sealing rubber portions of the connector without arcing.

Silicone grease should not be applied to (or next to) any switch contact that might experience arcing, as silicone can convert to silicon-carbide under arcing conditions, and accumulation of the silicon-carbide can cause the contacts to prematurely fail. (British Telecom had this problem in the 1970s when silicone Symel® sleeving was used in telephone exchanges. Vapour from the sleeving migrated to relay contacts and the resultant silicon-carbide caused intermittent connection.)
