anyone got one?

my current murray.. a 42"/12.5hp mower is going on 16ys old.

engine is strong.. but the deck is about shot. I've reworked the spindles once already.. even rethreaded one of them.

beet thru a few belt sets and countless blades. trans still going.. brakes are shot ( lil disk job ).. figure I can probably abuse it 1 more year... but saw those small jobs at walmart makes me want one.

i don'tmaintain alotta lawn.. just a strip around the house and a run for the dogs.. plus a lil by the road. les sthan half hour mowing for sure.

anone got one?

190cc.. probably 7.6hp or so I'm guessing..

I have the old Murray with 12.5 hp engine and hydrostatic trans.
Mine has a newly replaced engine and very good sheet metal.
I pulled the mower deck off and use it to pull dump cart, lawn spreader, small trailer, etc

I wish I could find out how to modify the tranny to install a drain fill plug for the hyd/gear fluid to help it last longer.

Any thoughts anyone?

you could drill and tap. go small pipe thread.. them trannies look like cast aluminum. if you found a flat spot, a washer headed plug with straight bolt thread and a oring or nylon oil pan drain ring would likely wrk as well.

i've done that to some sealed gear boxes on cheaper 3pt equipment. I have a magrix conical drop spreader that I did that too.

walmart, around here is almost the only show in town.

mind you there are a couple retailers that offer a similar design mower for similar money.. but.. I think many of them are mtd clones.. and I read a few bad things about mtd a while back.

of course.. murray went T/U a while back too.. brigs was about the only thing going for them.. so that is kinda sad too. :)

all said though.. my old murray is 16 and still technically works.

engine is fine, one oil leak at oil fill.. just an oring or something easy to seal.... just rest of machine is wearing out.. :)

i hear ya on walking shoes.

i'm on a mandatory 30m / day exercise program for my heart.. and walking is about the easiest for me, and IS on the list. helps regulate blood sugar too.

walmart walking shoes are like 20-25$ vs 35-55$ at other stores.

The mower I use is a Yard Machine 21 inch cut 6HP B/S engine big wheel. My yard is not all that big but with the baggier on it I can push it for 1 maybe to bag fulls and I have to stop and take a break. Just doing that much my legs start hurting so I can still do it just have to push one or 2 bags full then come in and do what I am doing now.
As for Wal-Mart yep in this town you have them and that is about it for shoes and cloths unless you want to buy the high priced stuff. Ya the local Orchelins has cloths but boy the price and no walking/tennis shoes

i can't push a mower well anymore. i tore cartilidge in my knee.. can't run or jog either.

thus.. even for a small yard. I'm doing it on a rider...

You need one of the self propelled ones then. My right knee is in bad shape and the doctor says I should wear a brace on it but as long as I can stay on dirt or do not have to be on a hard surface a long time I do ok. I have had surgery on it and that helped for about a year then back to the pain and the popping etc.

i should be wearing a brace full time too.. but only wear it part time.

my night job is alot of standing. hard on my leg.

No experience with them, but that picture sure makes the deck look
like it's made out of tin foil.
I don't know how parts are in your area either, but it seems like you
could pick up a good used deck for your current mower.
They normally interchange over quite a few years and models.
Maybe find one with little use from someone who didn't know how to
change the oil in their lawn mower and fried an engine.
Just the miser in me I guess. I like a new toy as much as anyone!

Sounds like you are figgering out just HOW would be the best way to spend that TAX RETURN? :)

Anything will mow grass. Even a 25 yr. old Sears. Never a "capital return" on a new piece of equipment unless it helps make an income.

Just my opinion when I see those NEW mowers outside Lowes, etc. My 25 yr. old SABER works just fine.

problem i'm finding is that model was some sort of special run for walmart only, with the 42: cut.. with most all the others being 40"

I have to be carefull finding blades as they will be short and stripe.

not sure if I could squeeze a 40 deck under there.

at 16 ys old.. parts are becoming harder to find for the poor thing.

I think it was an economy 700$ mower when new.. and I don't think anybody expected one to last 16 ys. :)

i just happen to take good care of equipment.. :)
