OT: Automatic washing machine valves

saw it on this old house a variety of valves that wil shut off the supply to the washing machine when not bein used. idea is to stop a flood from a burst hose which it seems happens more than you would think. seems like a good idea started doing the research. looks like some models are pretty much junk. mainly electronic ones. there is a different type that uses a mechanical timer seems to have good reviews.

anyone install one of these - of any style - and care to share opinions? thanks

My practice (at least this is what my wife does), is to turn the hot and cold water supplies off after using the machine. I think she picked up the practice from watching me turn off the gasoling on my tractor after each use. It works for us. ';>)

In my lifetime I have seen many other water flood problems than "burst hose" on wash machine. Dish washer plugged or failed gasket, leakie sink goosenecks.
And the newest and worst was "A center island, marble top, with sink below marble, with no drip basin around faucet, and when faucet failed, $7000 damage to basement ceiling." Faucet manufactures, have to recognize this potential problem and provide a raised steel edge, between faucet and counter top, so water is directed to sink drain.
