Ford 9n generator problem

My lovely 1947 9n tractor won't charge her battery. As far as I
can tell it still has a 3 brush generator. I have no output on any
of the three terminals. The output setting is set all the way up.
The two side terminals are jumped out with a wire. There is a
wire from the rear of the generator leading into the harness. I
currently use a 12 volt battery on her. She runs like a top but I
have to charge the battery off my truck every 3 hrs of
operation. I'd like to see her charge herself. I've heard rumors
that it is a 6 volt generator wired to charge at 12 volt. Any help
would keep me sane.

ounds like an early 8N 10000 generator (that should have a regulator) that someone has wired to act like an older 9N/2N generator with a cut out. That is OK, too. Jumper across the 2 cut out terminals & see if that results in an ammeter showing charge.
