2N Carb frustration

Hi folks. I have a 2N, 6V, that I've had for probably 10 years.
I've done a lot of things to it, but this had got me frustrated,
and generally PO'd.

I rebuilt the carb, as I have before, and can't keep it running
without holding the choke open. I have good fuel flow to the
carb (at the elbow), and good flow out the bottom. I'm set at
1.5 turns out for the main jet, and 1/2 out for the side idle
jet. Will start, and run if I hold the choke out, but no matter
what I try, It won't continue running without holding the
choke out.

I'm way too frustrated at this now, (can't see the forest
through the trees type), is there something that I'm missing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I hope this hasn't posted twice.

I am no expert, but sounds like an obstruction somewhere, something is not allowing a smooth flow to the venturi to be atomized. A small piece of stuff is stuck somewhere. Does anything change if you remove the air breather hose?

Open up that main jet. You should be able to make it smoke black. If not, something is plugged in the carb or fuel supply.

I have the same problem, at times.

With this "new gas" plus I only run my N for short periods, annually.

What you need to do is: take the carb. off and disassemble. Remove all the jets....some are sorta a problem without those "gunmaker's" screwdrivers. Take about 120 # of air pressure and blow out all the passges. Usually their is gum and other stuffs that are lodged in those tiny passages.

Put her back together and re-install and she should work OK 'till next SPRING.

We have a few really good carb guys on this site.
Here's some advice I'm passing on from them.
Run a wire through every passage.
Carb cleaner alone isn't good enough.
Compressed air and carb cleaner together is good, but not good enough.
Some small electrical wire, maybe 22 gauge run through the passages
with carb cleaner and air will make sure the passages are open.
Leave the brass jets in unless they come out fairly easily.
You could tear them up trying to get them out and then the carb could be
lost completely.
One last thought, check the quality of your spark.
A weak yellow/orange spark will run better with the choke pulled.

You say.....:"I'm way too frustrated at this now, (can't see the forest

I can try to help ya with yer frustration, and might even help get your carb to 'Perk' right for you!!! :)
Give me a quick pho. call,,,,@ 1-406-240-0129...(cell pho.#)

I can explain what to look for....blocked passage, wrong jets, idle circuit malfuntion,...ect,ect!!!!

All I really need to know is....Which one of the M/S carbs do you have, and which carb kit did you install.???

Gary

There are other options. I put a new Zenith on my 2N and no carb. problems in 3 years. I still have the original and will keep it. I got it from this site.

Thanks for all the ideas. GB, I just tried calling ya, and it says
"out of service". Did it snow that much more?
This is a model TSX33. I bought the kit from nnalert, I think
it was C546V complete kit. Tim

Tim;
Must have dialed wrong?????? Been receiving calls all day on it.????
Try that # again. it should work?? I just tried calling myself and it did!!
You are not in MT. are you??? If so...only dial the 210-0129#. If out of state...then you need to add the 1-406.

We need to talk, I'm thinking you have installed the wrong set of jets. The carb kit you installed, (C546V) is for the TSX 241 series carbs!!!!
The TSX33 carb kit...(C545V) is the one you should have installed!!!
Lot of dif. in the jets sizing!!!

Try calling again.......I'll be here and the phone is working!!!

How dam stupid can I be....I gave you the wrong cell#, on my first post to ya!!!
Right# is.....1-406-210-0129!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary....the idiot!!!!!!! :?

First, thanks to everybody who responded, I used the advice from all of you.
Gary,
Thanks for the number again. I took the carb off again, followed all the advice, pulled out the jets, ran the wire around, and kept blowing it out. I DID actually shake some particles out from underneath the main jet. I have no idea how they had survived being soaked, blown, etc, .
I really appreciate the help, and confidence I got from everyone. And especially giving out your phone number in this day and age is really something! Thanks again.

I think that j8n's have a mixup on their part numbers on those carb kits.

Bye for now, Tim

Don't feel bad about the wrong number, Yesterday I locked the keys in my car, with the engine running.

yeah, it was my first day on "Focus Factor" vitamins.

Tim, glad to hear of your success!
BTW, if that advice I posted helped, thank Gary!
I got it from him on that [i:a39b0aab9e][b:a39b0aab9e]second[/b:a39b0aab9e][/i:a39b0aab9e] phone number a while back. :)

Tim;
Glad ya lost your frustration, and got it running!!! Rust particals, get into the weirdest places, but under the main jet....that's a place, along with all the passages, that HAS to be prisine clean!! No wonder it gave ya fits!!!
