Don't waste your money!

Gentlemen,

I bought a gear shift lever seal for my 8N from Tractor Supply. It doesn't fit properly. The large diameter hole that is supposed to fit over the shifter outlet on the tranny is too small.

Nonetheless, I still installed it. Over my existing cracked seal. It may at least keep some dust/dirt out of that area until I can buy one from YT.

FYI.

Larry, they all fit really tight, otherwise they wouldn't seal.
Boil it in a pot of water on the stove for a few minutes to get it soft.
Then install it quick like!

Turn it inside out and slip it on, small end first, and roll it over the base into the groove. I destroyed one trying to put it on like a tire. Seems like I saw the tutorial either on this site or maybe the N Board. You don't have to heat it or anything like that.

it's rubber.. it will stretch. warm it in some hot water first.

many of us have done this many times ....

When you compare the size of the hole and the lip it must slip over, it looks impossible. When heated, you can actually turn the thing inside out as one poster told you.

I put mine into hot water on the stove and brought it to a boil. Took it out with tongs. It will cool enough in a few seconds for you to handle it. I turned it inside out. Then took it outside and slipped it on the gear shift.

I pushed it to the bottom and rolled it back down and over the lip, no tools or anything else required. You'll be amazed at how supple they become when heated.
