8N finish mower size?

Hey guys, I assume it has already been asked somewhere but I can't seem to find it... I have a 52 8N and am tossing around the idea of getting a finish mower somewhere down the road. Now that the bush hog has done its job with a little work it will be grass. I will be mowing about 3 acres. Right now I have a riding mower with a 50" deck. Was thinking about a 6' finish mower. Will the 8N handle and would anyone suggest going to a 7'? Anything less than 6' I presume wouldnt make it worth the money since I currently cut w/ the 50" deck (of course the 8n would be more fun to cut with). Also any brands people like better? Thanks

Six foot is the general consensus on size around here for an 8n. I have a 5ft frontier line from JD and it fits well with what I do. I have also had a healthy respect for the bush hog brand of implements.

I run a 6' King Kutter with no problem. Its an older one I got at auction years ago. No complaints at all.

I just sold a 5' Caroni I didn't need. The 5' was inside the rear tires so it was a pain around obstacles. I run 11.2 and cut about 4 acres.

I would not have anything but a rear discharge. Cuts the grass once and pitches it out.Very noticeable that it is easier on your tractor-does much better job even in taller grass. I run a 6" First Choice rear discharge behind my 19 hp Kubota L1500 and it has to be mighty tall and thick for it to be overloaded...rear discharge ONLY!!!!

I agree. I have been using a used 6' King Kutter finish mower for four seasons now. Correct me if I am wrong Guys but a person needs to match the horsepower with what the mower deck requires as well as the RPM. 8N is about 20 horse and can provide 540 RPM at the PTO shaft. Therefore, it should and does match my 6' King Kutter finish mower perfectly in accordance with King Kutter's requirements.

I can only speak for what my equipment requires.

Good luck this mowing season!

Six foot, max. A 7" finish mower is too heavy and requires too much HP in all but ideal conditions.

If I was going to go back to a finish mower I would
choose based on parts availability.
Caroni, Woods, King Kutter all work well.
What can you buy parts for locally on a weekend?
We all know that's when it will break!
I would stick with a 6 ft and consider turf tires.
Or maybe truck tires on the front so they don't cut in as bad.

I have a 6' Farm King behind my 2N and it does a beautiful job. I run about 2 to 2.5 mph in 2nd gear and it works great.

I have a 2N with a 6' King Kutter mower. I've had it for at least 15 years and it's held up pretty well. I generally mow in second gear, which works really well as long as the grass isn't too high. Then I need to drop down to first or the mower won't keep up. It's usually not that the tractor doesn't have enough power, just that the mower can't cut it fast enough. I'm a little envious of the newer rear-discharge version, which should do a bit better job of spreading the clippings.

6' Landpride side discharge - which is a slight pain as you have to plan your mowing direction so as to discharge to the cut side else you can bog down cutting fresh grass plus the old clippings. 52 8N side.
