1 needs to see power, or it usually won't start charge till high rpms are reached.

#2 is sense.

here's the issue.

don't ever hook a line to the sense/#2 that has a resistor or lamp in it. the sense needs to see charge voltage to set regulated voltage. if you put a line to #2 that has a lamp or resistor in line.. that lamp / resistor will drop voltage and tell the alt that the charge voltage is too low and make it charge it's gutz out.

i'm not sure why you even bothered testing it knowing it was hooked up wrong.

get it hooke dup right. lamp in line with #1 and jumper from charge post to #2

lamp should be a 194 or similar. one too low of watage may fail to turn the alt on correctly.

as jmor mentioned. many different vreg modules...

have someones teenager get over there and make sure he is using the meter correctly.

need info before you keep changing things.

Got that spot on about getting a teenager in for a consult. They may not be able to use a pencil, but they just 'Know' electric/computer/games/remote controls !!

yep.. they are usually good with hand held electronics that's for sure.

heck.. I've had to borrow neighbors kids for good set of eyes and small hands to reach in and pickup a nut or tool I've dropped into a housing. :)

If he's using an inexpensive digital volt meter this could be normal. May need to get an analog meter (one with dial scale).

Digital meter operates on a stream of digital pulses, ignition "noise" can drive them into confusion.

I'll second that. I had a youngster in my class control my Smartboard with his tablet. I don't have that kind of time.

some of the new gadgets are cool.. some are odd.

I hear there is a new smart phone app that you talk into the phone and it converts your talking to text.. then lets you send it as a text.. so you can text and drive while hands free.

um.. what happened to talking to someone else.

why the middle man going into text ????? if you are having a 2 way conversation.. ??
