wheel weights

So the guy I bought my dearborn snowplow from has a complete set of wheel weights. He thinks they are 70lbs each but I"m thinking more like 45lbs each. $250 for all (both rear wheels). Deal or no? Honestly I can"t see paying that much for weight when I could figure something out with concrete as it would be much cheaper.

What kind of weights are you talking about?
Ford pie weights?
If they're pie weights and you don't want them I'd be interested.
Depending on location of course.

I think on the other board you said they were like the weights below.
I wonder why Ed Gooding didn't give me credit for that photo. I always give him credit when I use his. Oh well...
These are 3 piece and weigh 75 lbs X 3 = 225 lbs per wheel.
I have had these weights on 4 or 5 different tractors now. I'll sell you my tractor but Not the weights.
They will fit any 28" Ford style rim/center combo.
Generally you can expect to pay about 50¢ a pound for weights. So $250 is right in the zone.
I prefer cast iron to fluid ballast for a couple of reasons.
One is it is easier to transfer them from one tractor to another, two, you can always sell thyem if you choose to. Also, if you get a flat you wont see your cast iron running out onto the ground.
DO NOT buy this style weights unless you get the 12 special mounting wedges that go with them.
A little more info if I haven't bored you already:
When you install them you want to tighten them up good all around. Then tighten them again.
Then use your tractor for a few days and tighten them again. If you hear them creaking they have loosened so listen for that.
Last thing, I have seen rims rotted out from mud, etc getting caught between these weights and the rim. A couple of times a year I blow out any crud in there with a pressure washer.
I really like these weights. From the outside you can hardly tell you have them on. I would not sell mine for $300.

There was a guy on craigslist that had a sold pair like mine. He was asking $225 for them. He didn't know what they weighted so I emailed him they were 300# each. He wanted to know what I thought they were worth. I told him I wasn't sure but that most people would prefer the pie weights and that if he couldn't get what he was asking to just slowly drop he price till they sell. Looks like he must had sold them because his ad is no longer up. I'm including a picture of mine. Not really all that hard to install with a handyman jack. Wonder if I could use these on the outside and still put pie weights on the inside? That would get my weight just about right. The PO had these solid weight on plus had the tires filled.

yes, they are pie weights. i can't recall how many go on a wheel but i will look saturday when i go to work in that town. maybe i'll offer $190 and see what he says.

without opening the other comments again, as i remember, the pie weights would be 75lbs per section? i guess i'm strong than i thought then. or, did ford offer different size weights for the 28" rim.

Pie weights like the ones below are selling for $500+ in my area.
I don't know who the pictures belong to, I swiped them from Google.

If anyone is looking for pie wts like above, make sure you get the 2 mounting plates and the 16 extended lug studs. They are kind of pricy if you have to buy them separately.

Sadie came with what looks like yours FD however they are 2 pcs each with 4 halves each wheel along with weighted tires. Added a 30 gal drum with concret (300# ?) and found out dry rot was worse than thought. Now she sits in corner of property hoping for a new tire.
Buying a tractor to not have to do as much by hand is nothing but "Yet another of my bright ideas that is nothing but a waste of $$$"

Pie wts look like a piece of pie at thanksgiving and can only be used on the outside of the wheels. The wts. your looking at are priced about what they would bring around here. If the guy won't come down on price, if it were me I would buy them anyway. They will hold their value over time.
