starter ring gear

old ring gear was chewed up in one area like 6" got the new gear the bevel on the teeth are on the right side the bevel on the old gear was on the left what one is correct,is the best way to put these on to heat them to hell, and can you tap it on with a hammer and punch, little confused about the bevel.

Beveled side to rear of tractor. Freezethe flywheel over night--catch wife gone-heat ring gear in oven-put ring in oven-turn oven to about 450-when reaches 450 drop it on the frozen flywheel. Very little tapping needed.

thanks for advice flywheels in freezer,i wanted to also know about the bevel on the gear is it on the right side of the tooth or the left my old one looked like it was on the left side of the gear tooth, new ones on the right,i know its there to mesh in with the starter but i wanted to know if it was right part

Starter bendix goes in past the flywheel ring gear when installed, so when you hit the starter button it moves into the ring gear from the rear toward the front so the beveled edge of the teeth on the ring gear is installed facing the rear of the tractor-bevel gives bendix gear teeth a little lead-in to mesh with the teeth on the ring gear.

I tryed and tryed the oven but it was so close but wouldn't get on.. Had someone with a torch put it on. Fell right on. Just giving you a heads up. Have a plan B

I recently posted a similar post asking about the starter ring. I took care of the problem by finding a guy that sells used tractor parts and I bought a used flywheel with a good ring for $10. I figure that will be easier to just change the flywheel than fighting with the ring.

I tried that as well with no luck.. You got to get it hot all the way around and the map gas just couldn't do it. Go on YouTube and search for ring gear install. All of them use a good torch and it falls right on
