Altenator Adjustment?

I have a 12v alt. on the left side of my tractor. How on earth do you adjust the belt tension on that thing without having to use a crowbar on the lip of the hood? Nothing else is close enough to pry out on a little while tightening the belt? I sure don't want to bend the hood.

I fad'd up a bracket to run an A Circuit Genny from my front mount on my newer side mount motor. My trick...pull like he!! with one hand while tightening with the other. Helps to have a third hand, but you get the hang of it.

The belt doesn't have to be that durned tight if you're running the right belt.
Just snug it out by hand and tighten it down.

ditto what the others said... you should be able to manually hold the alt out and tension it. otherwise use a strap whench or form up a strap wrench with some rope nad a piece of pipe.

you DO want some deflection inthe belt. I like 1/2"

to tight and you eat shaft bearings..

Ah So! Thanks guys. I will just do the hand tight with a strap wrench next time. I have to get it just tight enough it won't squeal. Squealing drives me nut-so (as if I ain't enough already...lol).

I forgot to add that I have this dang plate in my neck and can't really pull hard on anything or I will be scooting in the house bawling. The strap wrench should do the trick. I can push ok.
