Anyone have experience replacing the fan belt on a 2N with the front loader hydrolic pump? Its a Davis or MF loader with the pump attatched to the crank pulley

The pump driveshaft is usually splined and can be removed/pulled out far enough to get the old belt off and a new one installed.

In theory yes it should just slide out but I have found on some the hyd hoses are not long enough to let you pull it back enough and if that is the case you have to unbolt the drive at thew pump lift the pump up and then slide the drive shaft out. By the way the belt will be a very tight fit between the drive hub and the axle area. BTDT to many times on my 8N and 841 both have loaders and crank driven hyd pumps

Yes, but removal of the pump drive shaft will likely not provide sufficient clearance to install the new C section belt between the axle and the drive pulley with pump shaft drive attached.

I supported the engine beneath the oil pan, removed the radius arm socket caps and backed out the bolts attaching the axle support to the engine and moved the axle/support assembly forward enough to install the new belt between the axle and pulley.

You will, of course, need to first remove or at least loosen, support and rasie the hood.

I would invest in a suitable length link belt from Fenner Drive. Cut the old belt off, install link belt and connect and go. Used it a lot on industrial machinery, Turned a 4 or more hour job into 15 or 20 minute job!

I used to have a 2N with a Davis. Of course, it wasn"t exactly original as it had been modified more than once before I got it. When I changed the belt, I was able to disconnect the pump from the shaft, unbolt the pump and raise the pump enough to pull the shaft out part way (so that the pump had something to rest on). I could then change the belt. It"s hard to get the new belt in place as there is not much clearance.

I used a similar adjustable link belt 5/8" wide I got it thru a woodworking supply. I and a lot of others use it on table saws and other machines for less vibration. So when it was time to change the belt on my 52 8n with wagner loader thats what I used and by the way that's what the old farmer PO.had on it. I had a 47 buick straight eight with it also, that was in the 60's so it aint new. I never had trouble it.
