8N implement recommendation?

I recently used the ole' Bush Hog to cut down about an acre of field grass, brush and small saplings to plant some fescue and add to the useable lawn area. Of course this left a bunch of 2" tall +/- saplings sticking up all over the place (most about 1/4" to 1" thick). I was thinking about using a tiller over the area to turn over the ground and prep it for seed but after reading here the 8N is probably not the best suited due to its 1st gear speed for tilling. Anyone have a recommendation what implement would be best to prep the area for seed (something likely rentable for the day). I live in an area of Virginia where the ground is pretty tough and clay. As always thanks in advance!

Only thing i know of is a plow and then a disk nothing other then that will do much

Best tool to use first would be a root rake attached to a dozer......if that is not a reasonable approach for you, I would find a friend with a one-bottom plow who would be willing to lend it. Then plow and disc the land with some hand work to remove the stumps/roots as they pop up after plowing. A two-bottom plow may be too hard for the "old N" to pull through the clay, grass and stumps, so if a one-botttom is not available maybe a neighbor with a bigger tractor could plow it and get through the stumps.

Here's what I use for roots and rocks.

You mentioned renting for a day. Rent a tractor with a tiller. the tiller will grind up the 1" and smaller roots and all. A few years ago my buddy brought his moline over and was grinding up 3" trees roots and all. A little hard on equipment but you are renting. After that discing was easy.

Thanks everyone based on ur responses i have a pretty good idea how to proceed. Looks lime some more seat time ;-) it is a blast working w/ the 8N. Jubilee85 I am up near Federicksburg.
