Changed the seal, now the shaft won't slide back in. It came out easily. I must be doing something wrong. I only see one hole it can slide up into. Anyone help?

spin it a lil...

assume this is on an n series?
ps.. you didn't drop the pump or have it out did ya?

did you use the oem gasket? or gunk.. or cu yer own?

shaft slides thru pump and not alotta wiggle room...

I mean it won't go in by about a foot or so. I do have the correct paper gasket though...lol

I'm wondering if I need to pull the side cover and see if something has dropped down to block the shaft from going in?

I second the idea to drain the oil and loosen the
pump blots just a little and then rotate the shaft
as you insert it.

have you loosened the pump bolts a lil and spun while sliding in?

remember.. the pto shaft drives the pump

Today, I did drain the tranny oil and loosen the pump bolts (lots of those things) and it would still not go in properly. I whacked it with a hammer a few times and it went in...but, I could not get the pto out of gear. It would turn when the pto lever was up or down. I ordered a new shaft and will pick it up tomorrow (conversion type) and maybe that will slide right in?

They did not appear to be. It did slide right out originally when I removed it. I'll try the new one tomorrow evening and see how that works and get back to ya'll.

sometimes it don't take much twist to stop one. and.. the twist might have been 'custom' fit' tothe coupler and when you put it back in you didn't get the magic spline placement inthe same 'slot' :)

so if the new one don't fit.. take the old and try it turned 1 spline at a time to see if you find one spot that magically engages ok.

It must have been a twist. I picked up the new one this afternoon and it slid right in! All is well now. Thanks for everyone's help. I do have one small problem. The pto stub is now the larger size and my over run coupler is for the smaller size. Is there a sleeve that will will convert the larger stub to fit inside my orc now?

hings get awfully sloppy when you add more parts to all that rotates there. Sometimes the added adapter length results in need to cut bush hog drive shaft, too. Been down that road, & advise new ORC. I leave adapters to the baling wire crowd.

I am thinking that is a better idea too, I'll just bite the bullet and buy a new one before I have to bush hog this spring. Thanks, Gary
