Mr. Fixit the 8n was in need of a new battery, being sunday I went to Vip auto parts who I realy don't care for I walked in without paying attention to signs or anything bought a battery and left. When I got home I looked at the receite and it said O'reilly auto parts no mention of vip.I read here about them but thought maybe they were midwest area store where a lot of you seem to be located.I have read good reports here about them so am looking forward tp doing business with them.A few yrs back I bought a tonue cover and a reese trailer hitch for my truck a good chunk of change to say the least, a few weeks later I called to see if they had a part, they didn't but could order it and have it the next day the part was only $5 dollars or so,I asked them to order it and they said sure but come in and pay first. It's a 30 mile round trip they didn't care pay first.Called Napa had it the next day no problem so I stayed away except sundays.

O-Really will ship to your house here with a putter order via credit card and overnight to the store without pay first. Talk to the manager and you can get it without a trip to town for a deposit . Our No Auto Parts Available (NAPA) charges shipping if they don't have it on hand and it comes over night and they get a truck every night anyway? They all try to make extra with only so many dollars out there.

With most parts stores its the counter people who make the difference.
Take AutoZone for example. Ours here can't look up a part with out
knowing the year make and model of the car to punch in the computer.
They couldn't sell you a battery without a vehicle to charge it to. (actually happened to me)
As you pointed out, a Sunday, last resort store.
We recently got an O'Reilly's, I have only been there twice.
The first time was to get a 10si/12si alternator for my tractor.
They needed to know what it fit too. So I gave them an example.
They had one, but with the wrong pulley, so I suggested we swap them.
They agreed, but had to go get tools off the shelves and open the packages.
I asked them to test the alternator before I left the store, which they
agreed to, but they didn't know how to hook it up and test it.
I had to help them with that but the alternator has worked fine since.
The second time I went in I was looking for a digital read out, panel
mount voltmeter. They took the time to look through several books but
couldn't find a panel mount. They had a dash mount but none less than $50.
I bought a brand new one on fleabay for $2.99 with free shipping.
They did take the time to try, both times, and that means a lot in my book.

(quoted from post at 13:02:18 04/07/13) Mr. Fixit the 8n was in need of a new battery, being sunday I went to Vip auto parts who I realy don't care for I walked in without paying attention to signs or anything bought a battery and left. I don't go to napa any more - I used to go in there a lot for various parts - must have spent a fair bit of money there but found the counter staff awful - started using o Reilly's and actually they were extra helpful - then auto zone and they were excellent - also like the website where you can get information about installing parts etc. I bet napa lost hundreds of dollars due to staff attitude there from me.

i use carquest here the napa closed, we have a o reilly'shere but the few times ive been in there ive found the staff almost useless,as a former parts counterman myself nothing is worse than to find a kid behind the counter that doesn't know anything about cars [ except what big rig size exhaust tip fits under a honda] trucks are even worse, and he didnt know ford even made tractors, the customer in front of me wanted a oil filter for a '65 mustang,289, the kid couldn't help as his computer wouldn't go back that far, a parts man knows that pre 1980 ford used 1 spin on filter on its cars and trucks and some models still use it today shouldn't even have to look that up

I have lived where I am for 33 years this July. When I first moved here I used NAPA but then they went under so had O'Reilly's or nothing. I now have and have had a dealer account with O'Reilly's for the past 25 plus years and they have done me good all theses years. Ya at times they can not get the right part or they have to try a few times but when you work on some of the odd stuff I do it just happens. Like just the other day I was working on a ford Ranger 4X4 and they could not get me the right front axle seals but then we found ford had a hard time finding them
