2N 12 volt conversion question

I bought a 2N last year at auction. Gave $300 for it, 2 new tires on front and 1 new on rear. Feller painted over dents and such. Didn,t run but not stuck. Wiring looks like a birds nest. Anyway I,m going to change it over to a 12 volt system. Would you recomend the conversion kit that this site sells or would you put one together on your own. Not very experienced with electical stuff. Know just enough to be dangerous. Have a good friend that can probably do it with his eyes closed but I would like to do it myself so I can learn. I may end up putting lumps on my own head by the time I'm done but I still want to try. Next project will be to rebuild carb as it is full of rust. Had tank cleaned and lined.

If you don't have much experience and a torch and welder to make
brackets you might be further ahead to buy a bolt on kit.
I prefer the three wire alternators to the one wire setup.
Post some pictures and let us know how it goes!

I would not go wit ha kit but then I have done many of them and can almost do it in my sleep. A simple alternator made for a 1980 Chev pick up no power any thing cost around $45 plus a $10 core from O'Reilly's then a Radio shack diode 276-1661 and then wired up and your done. But I have done many of them and if you check the archives there are pictures of it. The mount is not hard either. If you need help feel free to e-mail me and I can then give you my home number if talking one on one would help
