Well I bought my first 9n about 2 weeks ago. I drove it home. About 10 miles. (it takes about 1 1/2 hours to drive a 9n 10 miles in case you were wondering). Anyway, I got it home just fine. Used it to grade the road and then the next day it became hard to start. Carb flooding. So I took the carb off today to rebuild it, and in the process of dismantling it, one of the studs that mount it to the intake broke off. "MULE BISCUITS", I said. It turns out that the thing had been broken before and someone had brazed it back on. Now I need a new top for my carb. Any ideas where I may get one? I live in Southwest Missouri.

don't need a new top unless it broke the ear completely off the carb... extract the broken stud...install new fastener. all good.

drill out if you need. no rocket science.. just grunt work.. and not much of it either..

you are not being clear at all.

did the ear of the carb break.. or did the stud break off flush with the ear / flange.

in any case.. both are 100% repairable....

if you cannot adequately describe it.. simply post a picture.

I'm sorry for not being clear. At one time in the life of this tractor, both ears have been broken off at the flange. The part that mounts to the intake. Someone took the broken pieces and the bolts and used a brazing rod to "weld" everything in place. It obviously worked up until the point that I removed the carb. Now the bolt,(it is the forward bolt, or the bolt on the flange that is most toward the front of the tractor), is broken off again.

yep, sounds as if you need a new carb. Either a used one bought off ebay ( TSX 33 or TSX 241 both marvel/schebler will work, rebuild it or have someone else rebuild it. Or buy a new reproduction zenith carb ($$$$$$) But just finding the upper half of the carb to fit a 2n8n9n is alittle hard to find someone parting out just the top of the carb.

You forgot that GB in MT, he may pipe in and have what is needed. First you have to check his hat size !!! ;^) HTH

And it would work if you brazed them back on again, if it comes down to that.
There are a lot of options, but unless someone broke a bowl, most don't want
to part with just half of a carb.
I would stick with an original M/S if possible.
Someone may have one, lots of guys here have parts.
As Bob (the other yahoo) said, Gary may be able to come up with one.
As soon as he comes down off the mountain with that snowmobile! ;)

if i didn't find one.. i'd simply braze or weld it and then true it up with a file and uuse a good gasket.

can make a bit of a backer plate under it to help..add studs tothe plate.. attach the carb tot he plate with silver solder or braze. 3/16 metal would work fine...

I have the same issue with the carb on my 9N. The ear was broken off and brazed back on. Whoever did it was good with a torch but brutal with a grinder and really messed up the mating surface. It took a while but I cleaned it up with a file.
