2n distributor problems

working on a "46 2n, the problem is points slipping and i cant figure out why,ive replaced the points 4 times today and each time the problem is the same, it starts and runs about 1 minute, then quits, fire to the coil, but no fire to the plugs, when i pull the distributor the points have closed up, both screws are tight, and are not stripped, im ready to crush this thing, what is going on and what do i do about it??

No definitive answer here, but is there slop in the distributor shaft?
It might be beating your points up and/or pushing them out?
Others will have more ideas.

Do you have the correct screws, correct length in the points? Too long won"t work..

the screws are the original ones as far as i l know,no slop that i can find all seems ok, the original problem was a bad ballast resistor, i ordered a new one, but the tractor was hot wired and operated by somebody, i figured the points got burned up so i replaced them, even though they didnt look burned also replaced the condenser, i have never seen one do this without a reason, the screws are still tight when i pull the distributor , but the points are closed

star washers under the screws???

yes the star washers are there,this thing is driving me nuts, ive got to get it going, but ive never seen one do this, when i remove the dist. the screws are still tight, so i cant figure what is changing with just a minute or 2 of run time

Rubbing block on new points plastic or very rusty lobe on cam.Last 9N dist. I checked could not get 015 gap.New points adjusted ok.Points get very hot when running and melt plastic.Dist bushings could be badly worn.

sting here wondering about the bushings too ,nothing else makes sence, i didnt feel any slop,but it doesnt take much to eat 0.015, saw a small amount of brass particles, but not many, how hard are those to change?

as 36 said.. look at the rubbing block.. is it worn down any?

the block isnt worn, looks new as when i put them in yesterday, also what about centrifugal advance? would that do it? how much problem will i encounter taking the distributor apart? ive done old chevys and fords but not one of these, looks a little different

They press out and back in, mine came out fairly easily.
You will want to support the distributor well, especially when doing
the front one so the metal holding the bushings do not get bent.
They're available lots of places including YTMag. About 1/3 way down the page

there's no magic in it if that's what your asking.

the advance should give you rotational play.. and that's about it.. should not effect points closing up.

bad bushing will give you eratic gap though...
