I just found that my 8n (6v side-mount) has no resistor on it. Based on the way the wiring was painted over I can tell it has been that way for quite a while. The (round)coil does appear to be fairly new compared to everything else on the tractor. I've put less than 10 hrs on it since I got it, I don't know much about it before then. What are the chances I'll need a new coil soon? Resistance was 1.5-1.6 thru the coil, I'm not sure how much that tells me. |

| | 6V / 1.5 ohm = 4 Amperes That is a good current level. Greg |

| Cooter143.......surprizingly enuff, sidemount roundcan coils are semi-bulletproof. Don't be fer lookin' fer stuff that ain't there. More likely you need to replace the points (0.025") and plugs (AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025) MANY TIMES before the roundcan coil goes bad........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie meister |

| I'm sure Soundguy won't mind me sharing this for him.. soundguy 01-19-2013 14:07:16 184.247.33.27keep in mind thatt he front mount square can coils NEED the oe ballast resistor on 6v. later N with 6v round coils DO NOT need a resistor to run on 6v. a napa ic8 is a 6v round coil for a later sidemount N.. it needs no resistor to run 6v. an ic14sb is a 12v round sidemount.. it needs no resistor to run on 12v. |
