Priming oil pump for first start on new rebuild

I was wondering if anyone new a way to prime oil pump on a
9n on first startup it's a new rebuild! I did not pack grease in
the oil pump I heard that's what I was supposed to do!

Remove the large (15/16") bolt on the timing cover. Remove the oil relief valve and spring. Use a pump oil can and put some heavy oil in there.

Yes.thats a good way. Do you think a vacuum pump would work to pressure the whole system with oil! Or does if not matter I did use assembly lube putting it together about a year ago!

I suspect you are 'pushing the envelope' on the assembly lube. Do as mentioned, add some HEAVY oil - 90 wt gear oil is fine, it will dilute with the small amount required. Put the oil in, button up FAST and crank over with the plugs out and ignition off. You should get a reading on the pressure guage. If you do, put the plugs in and crank it up. Good luck !

Have a friend help you pull it with the ign off untill it has oil pressure.

My '48 8n sat for almost 30 years before I got it running.
I poured about a quart of oil in the oil filter housing and it must've primed the pump by running back through the lines to the pump.
When it started it went to 35 lbs and stayed there until it warmed up a little.
I had, also, turned it oover a few times with no spark so it may have helped some doing this.

Here"s a reasonably affordable way to FULLY pressure lubricate the entire pressure lube system BEFORE any wear occurs from dry cranking or startup. Use a NEW, clean garden prayer with a couple of quarts of engine oil in it, connected to the oil gauge port in the engine block. Pump "er up and lube "er up! SORRY for using a Chevy in the illustration, but it"s all I got at the moment!

The long block Caterpillar engine I put in a couple of years ago required prelubrication prior to start up or the warranty was void.
