Ballast weight and other rear tire ?s

A previous post about tires tubes rims and ballast cost plus their replacement came up. There is a product called Rim Guard it is a ballast thats not supposed to be corrosive. As far as cost of tires tubes and rims for the rear goes a few years ago I got four used tires with tubes at a tractor salvage yard 2 were 100 ea and the other 2 were 125 ea. and were 85% and not weather checked. Yes I had the travel but it still was a good deal.

I always thought Rim Guard was the best, but I recently saw that one of the leading tire companies no longer recommends it ?

The product 'Rim-Guard' is a bio-degradable product, safe for livestock, and guaranteed to be corrosion free. It was called "BEET JUICE" when first introduced because it is made from beets. It weighs about 10-1/2 pounds per gallon and I can endorse it as I have used it since the late '90's with no issues whatsoever. It works great. You must have new tubes with it to be effective. I can't see why tire makers poo-poos it. My Firestone HD Truck & AG dealer uses it in all their work.

Rim Guard addresses the corrosion disadvantage of the disadvantages of CaCl but is expensive. Furthermore, a puncture makes a real mess and is expensive to repair.

I prefer cast iron weights and never load tires because the weights are rather easily installed/removed and I repair/change my own tires.
