Is a late 8n head differ from a early 8n head?

I have been trying to get my oil filter and generator to line up on a late 50 model 8n. The problem is that when the oil filter is bolted to the head there is no room for the generator. Do I have the wrong head? Say for a front mounted distributor instead of a side mounted one?

gennies are on different sides early to late.

late has a place for a coil .. and on an early.. sinc ethe genny is onthe right, the breather for the crank is taller as well.

build an offset back bracket for that oil filter if needed.
