Any information out there about how many 8N engines were made as Industrial, or stationary or ground power units? Any info appreciated. Applications? Things to look for?
 
We found an 8n Ford industrial engine for my 9n a couple years ago to replace a cracked block. My friend knew of someone way out in the country that had one since 1970 that came off a Woods Pull type combine stored in his corn crib. It cost a couple hundred and needed overhauled but was a very-unmolested engine to start with and actually got me a better engine than I had. It was an exact match and parts innerchanged well which was good as this industrial engine was hand crank and probably used very little in its life on the combine. Have no idea how many were made but have heard that Lots of Model A Ford car engines went on Gleaner Combines and was glad I actually got this engine for my tractor.cleddy

The one that came on my 8n looked like a normal N engine, except that it has a magneto on it. side mount block with front cover for front mount dist with the magneto drive. No serial number in the normal place but had a tag on top of bell housing. Probably no records on how many were made.

In the general area of the governor. the boss is there on mine but it was not drilled. pump runs off the cam.
 
ron........would you believe the right side of the N-Block. There are "cast-in" indentations but NOT useable. Remember, the N-Engine was also used in WW2 jeeps. The jeep gastank was under the drivers seat. Certainly not a gravity feed situation. ........Dell
