Hydraulic question

Just changed the PTO seal on my 9N..nothing unusual- shaft came out fairly well, went back in with no real trouble...Drained and refilled hydraulic oil in tuning up for the season..started running the cob webs out of her, and engaged the PTO. Shaft turns, no issue there...but- the arms are limp and do not move at all....any thoughts? Thanks guys....
 
Pull the right hand inspection plate off. It ha the dip stick for fluid level on it. Start tractor up with PTO in gear and watch for oil moving around. Also make sure the control arm is hooked up like it should be. If you do not have an FO-4 manual get one it has some good pictures of the controls etc
 
Ah but the PTO shaft as it went in or out could have hit something and popped it out of place.
 
Next to impossible to get air in the hyd system since the pump sits in oil all the time unless it is to low and then ya you have air but then a person should check the oil level which I think he said he had refilled
 
Check to make sure control fork is still hooked up to control valve. Probably became detached when removing/installing the PTO shaft.
 
I dont agree, if you drain all the oil, and refill it, it could easily get air in it. That would be similiar to running a diesel out of fuel. You have to bleed it to get the air out. Usually you can work the air out of a hydraulic system by working it.
 
You even pull the hyd pump on an N series tractor??? The way they are made it is in fact impossible to get air in the system unless you do not have oil in the system since the pump sits in oil and the oil is well over the top of the pump and the suction parts of the pump are well below oil level. I have pulled more then one system all apart and NEVER had an air lock in the system on and N series tractor
 
I have no idea where the control valve is or what its or what Im looking at inside...Ill check for fluid movement. If its not moving then what? Also, on the air arguement- My fluid level was waaay low- not even on the dipstick- due to leaky seal..but I did NOT run it that way. I just put 4 gallons of fluid in, she is right on the full line.
 
Do you have the I-T FO-4 manual?? If you do there are some good pictures in it as to the control linkage. If you do not have it you need to get it. As for the air I saw you said something about filling it so knew air was not the problems
 
I do not have that manual...where can I get it? Thanks again for your help everyone. Oh...one more thing- I have had carb trouble forever- thing rusts like crazy in Florida humidity...just had a master rebuild of it...and it was sand blasted and acid dipped...started her up, a couple of adjustments and it runs MUCH better...wonderin about a timing issue though...while running at a good pace in second or first, when i throttle down she back fire- not every time, once in a while...and 3rd gear it has no power and takes forever to "ramp up" and go... what do you think?
 
Most any farm and home store should have that manual or be able to get it as well as a tractor dealer. As for timing refresh my memory what are you working on?? If it is a front mount distributor not likely to be a timing problem but could be a point gap problem. Points need to be set at 0.015 and be sure to check it on all 4 lobes
