the hitch below my PTO on my 1951 8N is too far in to put a pin for towing is something missing or am I crazy?

Thanks for the help

The N series OEM under differential drawbar bracket provides a mounting point for a compatible swinging drawbar.

Alternatively, you can fabricate a short insert for it to attach a clevis.

You are not crazy and something is missing. The OEM drawbar clevis has a special spring loaded "push and twist to lock" feature for secruing the hitch pin. The part you are missing is the is the special hitch pin - p/n 8N804A. It is inserted through the keyed hole in the underside of the clevis, pushed in against the spring loaded collar, and then turned 90* and relleased to lock it in place. They are available from CNH for $60+ or you can buy one of my shop made repops for 1/3 of that. If you want to roll your own find yourself some 1-1/6" round bar, a 1/4"x 1-1/2" spring pin, and a drill.
