Starter brushes? Thing of the past?

Is there a good place to purchase starter brushes for the N series? Last fall, I had to purchased a set from the local Ford implement and they where $45. They had to order them which took about 10 days. I might as well have ordered a new starter from this web site. I presently have a starter that will need brushes soon.

Is replacing brushes in starters and generators a thing of the past?

$15.86 for a brush set from this site.

There's also a company out of Richmond, VA that does good work. I just sent a starter and a water pump off to them.

Just go to any rebuilder and ask for brushes for any ford 4.5" car starter. You should get a couple with the threaded lugs for the ground and a single pair with a clip in the middle for hooking on the fields. Cut the leads and remove the clip and you are in business. If you go this way you may even get them to solder the brushes in fairly cheap, if you want.

The set sold on this site looks pretty good, it comes with some spare parts (post kit, springs and thrust washers) that might come in handy after you pull the starter apart.

If YOU check with the Sponsors of this site, they probably will accomodate YOU.

Kim and Her Family are sorta local to my range of travels. They probabily have a source here in PA. Down the Road about 20 MILES or so.

Tell them that I sent YA.

Here, the small mom and pop car parts stores are starting to go outta business. Autozone moved in about 1 yr. ago. Gettysburg Auto Parts shut their doors.

all that stuff is still available, ive found some of these chain parts stores that have moved in have kids on the counters who dont know much about cars and i got 1 here that didnt believe ford ever made tractors, i dragged him out to show him mine finally, which happened to be on a trailer behind me that day, now if you need to shove a semi size exhaust pipe under your honda, he's your man, but if you find a store with older people in it they know where to find stuff,

CHECK out YOURS somewhere in YOUR area.

I got DISH.....sometimes the pawn shops get a hard-up customer.......FORD parts.

If they don't have them here, Check the web. I have gotten distributator parts for my 172 Ford motor in the skid loader from a place in South Carolina. They had everything at a good price. Knew just what I needed.
