OT - 2004 GMC Seirra Temp. Control

My 2004 GMC Serria 1500 has duel temperture controls. At time while driving the drivers side air conditioning will turn to heat. I can pull over and turn the engine off and restart it and it will start working right. It is only the drivers side, not the passinger side. Anyone have this problem and is there some fix without paying an arm and leg to the dealership?

Thanks
Clay

The part is $250+. Less than an hour to do if you know what your doing. Small 4"x4"x 1" electric motor/actuator that moves the temp door. I didn"t find any bullitens that would suggest a software update.

Check the blower motor while you are in there. There was a recall on some of those because the motor would fail to start and overheat the resistor, causing a fire. Our 04 Tahoe has had the blower motor stick a few times- but it was never recalled.

One of the many, many, many expensive, unnecessary problems GM has dumped upon its customers with all of this cheap, imported gee-whiz tech and crap parts. This stuff never happened in the days of cables and levers...

I can tell you are just gonna love the new touch screens controls ;-)

Thanks guys for the help. Don't know if I'll fix it or not. Not too much of a problem to just pull over and restart the engine when it happens. Been doing it for a year now. At least now I know what the problem is and won't get screwed too bad by the dealership if I decide to get it fixed. I can work on old tractors but don't think I'll attempt this on my truck.

Give a look on second page of this discussion. Worth a try, and does not cost anything to give a shot. I have found a lot of help on issue I have just by googling and often others have same or similar problems and find simple solutions. Hope it is that simple for you.

Nope sure didn't happen, the cables and levers did break though!
