oring or leather gasket

I read on this site that the "o ring goes toward the oil and leather is a back up".would someone verify this?/I tried searh 1st.I am installing on my 1950 8n.Thank You,

Yes. Soak the backup ring in hot water to make it easier to install.
 
witht he piston setting on the table like that. the leather goes on first.. thent he oring.

as mentioned. soak the leather first. use a spoon to walk it around like a tire on a rim.

lube the oring and leather to install too.. helps. crisco or vaso or cooking oil.. any oil helps... don't get the oring rolled
 
I've actually done them both ways and have yet to notice a difference.

I'm not saying there is no difference.. just not a tangible one I've been able to notice.

the rubber ones for sure have a top cup and bottom though.

and the 00 series, last kit i bought, the washer has a rubberized side and a leather side..e tc..
