| Here is picture. This was my Dad's tractor and i know at one time the triangle under the draft control spring was broken. We could not get the spring off so I fashioned a triangle with a slit in it to replace it to keep it from flopping around. maybe that was when it got bent?? I straightened it out by making the face of casting parallel with the edge of the scale shown The combination square was placed on shaft. I thought I had a larger picture showing that but cannot find it. After straightening this piece out I was able to make adjustments as described in Zanes instruction sheet. |

| I had a problem with that adjustment a while back, bought one of Zane's jig and still had problems. While I don't remember all the details, and after talking with Zane we determined that the piece that JMOR's green arrow is pointing to was bent. If you put a square along side of the shaft the cast piece face should be square, if it is not Zane and I figured that's was where the problem was. After straightening it out and adjusting with Zane's jig it adjusted and responded correctly. I wil see if I can find pictures and post them for clarity. Hope this helps. |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeI have heard about that part being bent & can even read about it in FO-20 (hundred series). You are the first to give any indication as to how to determine if bent, or correct shape. I do not see a "face". Also, I sure would like for someone to explain how it gets bent? It seems to me that the draft control plunger can't pull it too far to the rear, as there is a hard mechanical stop on plunger AND as for plunger pushing it too far forward, it seems to me that all the would do is compress the constant draft spring, neither of which shows me a reason for it bending. I certainly don't doubt you experience (combined with FO-20 comments), but I simply don't see the "how". If the rear most cast part of it could be pushed forward enough to hit the ram arm, then that would perhaps bend it, but in the opposite direction as to result in his problem?????????

| While I don't remember all the things I tried as I look at your picture, if the cast piece on the right was bent then the distance between where that attaches and the pin on square block on the left would be longer... Affecting the ability to adjust it. I am not able to get to all my notes and pictures right now.. But that is what Zane and I figured out after I got his jig and still could not adjust it. I remember it did not make sense to Zane and he advised me to look for bent linkage. |

| | Why would the springs have to be adjusted? When the cylinder is replaced or re ringed do the springs have to be moved? Is it possible to count the number of turns of the adjustment nut, if the springs have to be removed? |

| I'll vouch for Zane's jig. I've done them both ways - the jig gets it right every time. |

1950 8n | Is there adequate adjustment to make the 1 29/32 dimension longer?

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeOne thing that would result in your problem is that the draft control link assy is positioned too far forward. How could that happen? For whatever reason the draft control plunger (inside big spring at rear) is too far forward, as in incorrect assembly or improper shim, etc. Have you had the big spring/draft control plunger apart? Added shims?

| | I don't know what instructions you are using to try and adjust the 8N lift but it has been my experiance that most of them simply can't work on a 60 year old set of parts. All I have seen you have to have the lift arms all the way down in order to adjust the position mode. Or with the ram cylinder removed the lift arm yoke pin holds parrall with the lift cover gasket surface. What you really need is one of my lift adjusting jig fixtures and my experianced method of adjusting the 8N lift so you have a solid place to adjust to. See the link below if you are interested.
