I have a shallow well/cistern about 200 ft from the house - there is no power there - I am thinking of trying to use it to fill a storage tank at a higher level to then gravity feed a garden area - one idea was to use a solar pump - has anyone any experience with these or have one? would be interested to hear about it.

Thank you

lee

Hey Lee! Don't know anything about 'solar pumps'. I do know, however, that an inexpensive solar charger, a decent battery., and marine 'bilge pump' will likely do what you require (as long as there is no urgency), The pumps (12v) will lift up to about 20'. If that is enough gravity for you .... HTH

If you've got a stream or creek (with good flow) filling that cistern, and a place for the waste water to run off, I would use a hydraulic water ram pump. They don"t require power or fuel.

might be cheaper to run romex. i have a line 500ft. to well pump..works great..cut a shallow ditch ..unrolled exterior romex..not pull..dont want any twists..layed in ditch..covered..been there 15yrs. mow over it..no problems..make sure everyone knows where it is..wont work in rocky soil... phil
