maybe i'm missing something, but dry ice is either a very cold solid or it is vapor. how could anybody use dry ice for blasting anything? i would seriously doubt one could use dry ice in any blaster. educate me!

Ya learn somthing new every day. I had not heard of it. What I read is it takes a dry ice blaster to do it and they start at 15K and go up from there. However if a person wants to try it through a regular blaster it would be at their own risk I guess. Google it up and do some research it or even You Tube it,I am.

Be careful with dry ice, it is frozed Carbon Dioxide and can cause an oxygen deficient atmosphere. See below:

Carbon dioxide is increasingly toxic starting at concentrations above 1%, and can also displace oxygen resulting in asphyxia if equipment is not used in a ventilated area. In addition, because carbon dioxide is heavier than air, exhaust vents are required to be at or near ground level to efficiently remove the gas. At normal pressure dry ice is −78 °C (−108 °F) and must be handled with insulated gloves.

I was just imagining the months I spent with a wire brush on my last project because I was worried about blaster residue getting into every crack of my engine and frame. MIGHT just be worth what it costs if it could remove all that "stuff" with the tractor assembled etc.

You may be right, BUT, there are still those 'spots' that only taking the thing apart will allow you to clean properly. I have always been the guy that has a real good look, take pictures , order parts and bits BEFORE it take stuff apart. Then when get to it, I sandblast/media blast the bits, prime them and so forth. Some of my projects look OK.

Dry ice has been used for years in decontaminating nuclear and chemical hazards from surfaces. The best thing about it's use in those applications is that there is little secondary waste generated, ie grit, water, etc.
