Does anyone know of a good brand for a cable winch puller aka a "come-along"? Or are they all about the same. I need one in the 4000-8000 pound range because mine is worn out and it never worked well anyways. Built fence with it yesterday and I had my fill.

I have a Tuf Tug american made in Dayton Ohio it is in that range and is is a great tool I would definetly recomend it. Mine cam from Northern Tool. don't remember the price but was over $100.Well worth the money I went thru several of the cheep ones before getting this one.

To get to 4T on a double line puller you would need 1/2" cable. I think that is outside the range of most simple come-alongs.

That said Coffing hoists are well regarded and they make a 1T/2T puller - model number C404WNB (9/32 cable). Probably set you back the better part of $300.

Also might want to look at these pullers from Wyeth-Scott - they are a bit less expensive: Wyeth-Scott Pullers.

Another high quality puller is Lug-All but they are even pricier: Lug-All Cable Pullers

I use it for winching fences and pulling calves, and tractors and what not. I rarely use it for dead lifting. If I got into overhauling motors I would get a chain hoist, those work real well.

Wore out and never worked. Let me guess? A-china B india C- mexico. Take TOH advice pull one calf and it paid for itself.

Is Lug-all a better puller overall than the Wyeth Scott? I am willing to pay for a puller that will last me 30 years. Or is there not a dimes worth of difference--except the dimes. I am also willing to use a puller whose cabling does not gouge me and make me bleed like a stuck pig. Twice.

Yes, the old one was from overseas.

Anyone ever heard anything of Lincoln cable pullers? Supposedly, they made Lug-all and then no longer after a breach of contract.

Yes, Lincoln made some (all???) of the Lug-All models and still sells repair parts for them. They even have the same part numbers on their current products. I don't know about any contract issues but it's entirely possible given the verbage on the Lincoln website.

I have never had my hands on a Lug-All but I've seen the Wyeth pullers "in person" and they are impressive - and heavy!

Every piece of Coffing lifting gear I have ever seen was top of the line.

I wish you a long and prosperous life but I suspect any/all of them will outlive you.

I rest my case, I look for and buy USA when possible. Like I said ONE calf saved ,$$$$$$$$$ saved. If ya have problems you have a recourse. There are some post about harbor freight on this forum and the likes hear and its 90% buyers remorse,Flag Waver L.B,

Even without the Lug-All and Lincoln split it's hard to say if the quality is still the same 30 years later. I just looked at a new tool from Milwaukee Electric and it had a "Made in China" sticker on it. I'll bet it's not the same quality as my old Milwaukee drill.

Yes a chain hoist works well , except for when you need to work one sideways ( not designed for sideways) the chain keeps getting hung up.

I have had real good experiance with Massdam comealongs. Still have one of the ones bought in mid 70s. Have 5 or 6 been used and abused. Pulled stuck truck out, loaded all kinds of junk, tied down loads, used as chains, streched fence, other things that were not meant to be used for.
