Piston Ring Compressor

I have a old blued steel double band piston ring compressor that uses a a 1/4 ratchet to tighten it. Somehow the two tightening bands have come undone.
What is the best way to rewind them so that compressor will work ?

I got my ring compressor thru Dads estate , but I do remember that I messed it up once while screwing around in his tools & after he beat me (not-so-silly), he used his hands to form it into position as I turned it with a ratchet & short extension . He had lots of patience with things like that , but not with me . So find someone with BIG hands to squeeze while you turn the hicky .God bless , Ken
