Common causes of leaking carb?

When I turn on my fuel valve gas starts leaking out from somewhere behind the carb, tractor doesn't start. Before I start taking it apart is there anything I should be looking for specifically? It sat outside all summer - maybe the gaskets/seals dried up?

TIA,
Jim

Fuel leaking from the carburetor when the fuel valve is opened is usually caused by failure of the float valve system. This can be a sticking, or damaged float assembly, loose float valve seat, damaged float valve needle, dirt in the float valve, etc.

You say carb leaks from behind sounds like a bad or dried up carb gasket. But also as Dean said and may have a float sticking and since it sat a long time maybe ever very rusty in side which will cause odd problems

When you take it apart remove the pin which holds the float in place and gently lift out the float and give it a shake - if it is heavy or you hear liquid sloshing around inside then you have a pinhole leak in the float - if that is the case you can get the gas out and once dry clean the area out and see if you can re-solder it - I was successful doing that to mine.
