piston COULD be reused with new rings.. and a hone job on the cyl. me? i'd get the naa cyl.. oring and washer.. and hone the cyl good. the oring is fat and holds up good even if the cyl hole opens up a lil on honing to smooth it.

your call. rings are cheaper.. will likely seal a lil less on a worn cyl.

remember under the cyl is a long and 2 small gaskets.. then the top cover gasket.

use no goop.. go on dry and clean

Everything Sounder said. The thing about the gaskets between the cylinder and the cover is the oil port is much happier when the mating surfaces are square. That is why you should use gaskets at the "other" end of the cylinder.

Honing, I would recommend just enough to put cross hatch marks all around, enough to assure there are no highs, maybe 15-25 seconds @ less than 500 rpm.

I would not recommend taking out all scratches. They won't harm the Oring unless very deep and wide, then you probably need a new cylinder. Any leakage from a few scratchs should not affect use. Dimensions of the cylinder are more important. That is just my opinion, fwiw.

Pop for a new cylinder and forget about it for another 50 years.
