9N Paint - 50 Shades of Gray?

Ford novice here. I'm painting my 1974 F250 and gooseneck trailer. I'd like to use a nice gray for all three (common color if possible so I can use cheap stuff on the trailer). I like the 9N color I see on restored tractors (and after all, it's going on a Ford). There's many schools of thought on this, but I've looked at Battleship Gray and Machinery Gray (sometimes called dark Machinery Gray). Battleship seems to look fairly light, then dark in another picture. Machinery kinda has that dark shade that looks good on 9N. What is right? What is acyually used on a 9N? I have Twin City tractors that used surplus miltary battleship paint on early and darker TC Gray on later models. Thanks in advance.

I've painted several 9Ns with Van Sickle Dark Gray (475). It is VERY close to the color I've found in protected places (like the inside of air cleaners). However, I don't think I would paint a truck and trailer with it. I would use something more durable. But try and match the color. If that's waht you want.

Go to an Ace hardware, I painted a horse trailer white and gray with what was called Rust Stop Paint its their home brand-wares like iron and they can mix any color you want.On the 74 get Ford Wimbledon White at NAPA with a gray interior it is a nice contrast both the white truck and the gray tractor make them very nice combo.

Mopower.........here we go again. The original N-Gray would change color from 8AM Monday to 5PM Friday. It was the "cheapest" paint Ford could find and keep the rust away. Variously called; industrial gray, machine gray, battleship gray, forest gray. (gitt the idea???) I'm told when Harry and Henry split the blanket; Harry got the "formula" for N-Gray along with the original 9N drawings, so Ferguson Gray is as "close" to original as yer gonnna gitt. The ONLY time to worry about "matching" gray, is when yer doin' body work on the sheetmetal. Me? I'd repaint the whole hood again, probably use a paint roller, 'stedda' spray pot. Surprizingly enuff, castiron don't show miss-matches. .......its yer tractor, paint it enny color that pleases you ........Dell yer 20-20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph)

Kinda what I figured... as Grandpa said, "It's got that far away look". Looks good from far away.
