Replaced the head gasket on 1952 8N. Can't find the headbolt torque specs. Not in the F04 manual and can't find on the website. Sorry to bother for such a basic question.

Thanks,

Obie

Never mind. Just found a great link with everything. The headbolt torque specs are for the 53 and newer. 65-70LBS. I assume it is the same for a 50 8N

Not in the FO-4 manual??? You best go back and read paragraph 21 it says it plain as day there I know I have it open to it right now. That paragraph is Cylinder head R&R

Many of the torque specs are hidden in the paragraphs so you have to read it top to bottom then go back and reread it a 2nd time because there are the huts and studs on some and bolts on others and they use different specs. By the way that is true in all the I-T manuals I have read and I have a big stack of them sitting here on my desk just so I can answer questions LOL and of course use them for my machines

HeyObie........you do realize the '53 and newer were OHV engines and NOT FLATHEAD engines like the '39-52 engines. DIFFERENT designed engines. Different headbolt torques ........respectfully, Dell

Thanks Dell. You are right, but as it turns out, the torque is the same.

This is my first valve job on a flat head (that's why I pulled the head). What a great design. They don't make stuff like they used to. Nothing but solid steel.

Dell, You do realize that the head bolt torque for his 1952 8N is 65-70 Ft. Lbs. and the head bolt torque for a 1953 OHV engine is 65-70 Ft. Lbs.? Right? How is that different?

My FO-4 manual (dated 05/05) lists the final torque at 50-55 ft-lbs for studs and 65-70 ft-lbs for bolts. Reference paragraph 23, page 26.
