Update on 2N not starting (Got it running)

Used a spark plug with a 1/4" gap laid plug on the block and got a nice bright sharp white / blue spark. Tried starting fluid in the carb opening, no go. Then tried holding hand over carb opening to check for vacuum, string vacuum. After another shot of starting fluid and by adjusting my hand over the carb intake, I go it to fire and run. Let it run for awhile and then shut it down. Decided to check the condition of the oil bath air cleaner. To my surprise somehow condensation or water got in and the bottom of the oil bath was filler with a light brown slush! Cleaned out the cup and applied some heat from a lamp to the rest of the cleaner to melt out the rest of the slush. What grade oil do you run in your air cleaner during the winter. I have been running straight 30w year round. Thinking of running a paper filter during the winter and then switching back to the oil bath for spring through fall.

I like the oil bath better than paper. I think they clean better.
I run whatever I'm putting in the engine in the oil bath, just to keep it simple.

Oil bath filter is more efficient than a paper filter. Tractors were originally designed to run in a very dirty environment. Save the money you would spend on converting it for something else. Use the same oil that you put in the engine.

Glad to hear that you got the 2N running! I also would choose the oil bath over a paper filter. Both require maintenance. Every time you change the oil, drain and thoroughly clean out the oil bath cup and add new oil. Condensation can get in the cup and cause the situation you experienced.

Very common for you to find water and dirty gue in the air cleaner cup and that is why it should be services every 10 hours of run time as per the NAA manual. Should be close to the same for your 2N. Oil bath for a tractor is far better then any paper filter will be.
