new project

Well the starter broke off in the fly wheel, took about 3 inches of the fly wheel with it, was a new starter too, so, now this spring i am going to be beaking the 8n in half and replacing same, going to redo sheet metal and repaint all as I go.As I only have weekends to work it, i figure I'll get done sometime by summer,My road is going to be undriveable by then as I am the only one grading our neighborhood.wish me luck!

Lot of room in the bell housing for the parts that fell off. Ya the ring gear can be a problem if it took out 3 inches of it. But if it is a n easy start 8N you might find a crank handle so you can hand start it but if you do that be sure you learn how so you do not break your arm. Or park it so you can roll start it or pull start it

i have a 8n that doesnt run for spare parts, hsas a good fly wheel, starter not so good, but i think i can fix the one i have with a new bendix arm,

actually have a hand crank arm, used it a few times, but until i break the tractor apart to remove broken pieces, dont want to chance tearing up the housing with pieces inside it by running it.

Check the archives it has been talked about a thousand time or more and old man ford made sure to make the bell housing area big enough that the bendex can fall off and have room to spare and run it that way. So if you do not believe me just start looking it is there many many many times and Dell talks about it also
