does anyone know why when my old 9n gets down to half a tank of fuel it acts like it is running out of fuel when you go up or down hill. when the tank is full it runs great but after you burn 4 or 5 gallons it seems to act like its empty

One or more of the filters are most likely clogged up some. There is the screen that should be inside the tank on top of the sediment bowl and that is the one that is most likely to be the problem. But it could also be the one at the bowl assembly that sits just above the bowl it self. or even the one in the carb elbow. If I where you I would drain the tank then remove the sediment bowl assembly and clean it up and the other 2 while I was at it

Hay Old please don't think I am disputing what you say but I am confused, why would it run well with a full tank but not a half tank and he also says up hill as well as down hill.Is it the added weight of the additional 5 gals of gas actualy forcing the gas thru the dirty filters.I am with you I would definetly change or clean the screens but am still confused as to why it acts as he says.I love this sight and I keep learning more and more from you guys every day.

Yep reason I say it can be one of or a combo of the filters is yes the more gas you have the heavier so to speak the push would be so if the filters are sort of clogged more fuel having more weight can push the fuel where as low tank low push. Of course I could also be wrong and it is something else also

i have removed the fuel bowl and cleaned the screen i did shorten the fuel line tonight and went directly from the bowl straight across the top of the plugs right to the carb. it had a loop in it i hope this will fix it but i somehow doubt it i use this for plowing and we have had our fair share if snow here in the Canadian maritimes close to 2 feet last week!!! holy crap i didnt see that one coming!

There is a small vent on the top of the fyel tank. Sometimes the vent hole gets clogged with mud dobber work.

To check....try leaving the fuel cap ajar for a little when she is lower in fuel.

Hey RDH I was interested to hear you had 2' of snow there. My wife and I drove up to our camp in Labelle NS. Dec 26 hit some snow on the way but the plan was to drive back home to New hampshire on sunday but the weatherman predicted 12" or more starting sat night so we left sat. morning instead sounds like we made the right choice.

Also, when the gas is low and you are a slope the gas may be below the standpipe filter. When the tank is full the gas is above that filter. The top of the standpipe filter is open.

hey flembo you made the right choice i am right on the border of Maine and we got hit pretty hard. thanks for all the info gents i will try these suggestions and if i learn anything i will let you know
