old-9 01-01-2013 06:46:13 67.236.69.248 Report to Moderator	A little story, This fall I had a stranger stop by to "look " at my 39-9 that I had parked out front. It turned out he was looking for someone to fix his non running Ford. I agreed to look at it and help him out as it was only 12 or 15 miles away. His tractor was a mess! probley a 2-N with an 8-N hood, 12 volt conversion. The wireing was realy bad. Long story short after getting his starter rebuilt I repaired the wireing and got it running. Without having a diagram as to how it was intended to be wired, and with help from diagrams on this and another site I guessed as to what was done. Having NO information as to 6 or 12 volt coil made it a "shot " in the dark without taking everything apart. So here I make the suggestion that: " When you convert to 12 volts, on the inside of the battery door you draw a wireing diagram as to how it has been wired, including if it is still a 6 volt coil." And it was starting to rain (no shelter) the wires were just twisted together no stakons or wirenuts, external resistor with the wire striped and threaded through the hole where the push-on stakon should be. I got it to start , made no guarantee, and went home. To top it all off he paid over $3000 for it with a rear blade.   [Reply]  [No Email]

I cut it. a few feet of awg14 wire will completely rewire an N, not counting the starter and ground cables to / from the battery / solenoid. way better to invest 5$ of wire than deal with that junk!   [Reply]  [No Email]
