Your comment on the slop in the hitch reminded me that there are inexpensive accessories on the market designed help reduce the slop. I thought about getting one but haven"t gotten around to it yet. Here"s one example in the link. There are other designs. I haven"t used it myself so I can"t vouch for how well it works.

I'll probably get one and also use the stay straps.
That's a 5' span and the angle framing is maybe 1/16" to an 1/8". I'd hate to bend the hec out of it with a little weight out at the ends. Happy New Year, Greg
