Get technical why don't you LOL Shoot you know even getting the timing down to just so on something this old can be hard to do unless you have a lot of new and not form the land of almost right part so timing can also be a close to the ball park thing on a 50 year old engine LOL

I've only got 2 sidemounts on the place; the 51 8N & the 740. Setting the timing on the 51 was easy. The 740 did not want to cooperate. It would change 5* every time I tightened down the distributor. Took me three tries before I finally set it back 5*, tightened the nut & that got it dead on.
Sometimes I'm a little slow at the mechanic-ing stuff.........

Here is a true story about a car my dad once had. He took it in for a tune up, back when I was around 17 or 18. He got it back and told me it just doesn't run like I think it should. I pulled out my new timing light and check it sure enough right on. I said hey let me drive it and bot and see if I can make it better, He told me sure why not. I grabbed a wrench and took off. I would stop and adjust the timing by ear a bit at a time till I got the power I wanted but then it would not start easy . Played with it a bit more and got powder and easy start. Took it back to my dad and told him try it. I also told him DO NOT punch it but he told me I'll drive as I want. He punched it and left tire marks, bad thing is from then on I got the job or working on his cars
