Wrong part of the country

I live in the wrong part of the country to find Ford N tractor parts. Been looking for a good front mount engine for a 42 for a couple of years . None to be had around here or even close. Absolutely BARE block 85 miles from me for $500.00. There are parts listed on this site that I would jump on, in MO!! Found an engine from a power plant, in NJ!! Engines for sale, in Idaho!! Shipping is higher than the parts. Maybe I'll just shove the whole mess to the back of our property and quit worrying about it.

Ya a number of years ago I had a set of cultivators for sale and a guy from NM said he wanted them and drove all the way to Missouri to pick them up from me. Probably cost him more to drive here then it cost to buy them but he wanted a set for his Farmall B that he had

Pick up some tractor parts in Mo? Sounds like a good excuse for a family road trip vacation, even take in a few shows in Branson. If the tractor is part of your farm/business operation, most of the expense, but not show tickets, would be tax deductable.
Old mentioned below a fellow from N M driving to Mo to pick up a cultivator. Just a weekend getaway.
In a former life I was a tour bus driver. One morning at a motel in Erie Pa there was a pickup with Manitoba plates, unknown engine in back. None of the oldtimers in my group recognized it. When the owner came out I asked him about it. He said 24 Cadilac. He was restoring a 24, but it came with a 26 engine. He found this 24 engine in Jersey, only difference was the serial number.
Willie

Wife and I took a weekend in Ky (8 hr ride 1 way) for a set of 69 Chevelle seats. Not really where we wanted to weekend vacation, but the seats were needed, and we found something to do. It was a good time.

FWIW.....don t. ....

Willie makes a good point. Last time I needed parts that were 8-12 hours away, the wife and I turned it into a vacation. We even went to the Grand Ole Opry.

Too bad my snow bird buddy ain't snow birding any more. Could have found you and engine/block here in Mn and I know I could have got him to take it to Tuscon for 50 bucks.

Rick

Richard, I have 4 front mount motors, condition unknown, in parts tractors at my place in Colorado. I live in Flagstaff, AZ. but won't be able to get to Colorado until spring.

Richard - I still have a complete front mount engine out of an Industrial power unit here in Maryland... I"ll let it go for $350, I just want it out of my garage. You figure out the shipping, maybe we can find someone making a run again like i missed out on earlier in the year. Doesn"t have to go anytime soon, so see what you can come up with. Keith

Richard,
Just a thought here - maybe not a popular one.
If N parts are not plentyful there maybe consider parting out the rest of your tractor and buy a better one.
Look for a 600 or 2000 or some such.
After you get the block you're still going to have to spend another $1500 to rebuild it.
And when you're done you'll still have a 2n with no position control, no real drawbar, goofy brake pedals, no live hydraulics and no possibility of live pto or power steering or a 5 speed tranny. No hyd remotes either.
Sometimes you take a hit now but come out far better down the road.
Think outside of the box.

"consider parting out the rest of your tractor and buy a better one."

You sir, are hereby banished to the Ford forum! ;)
There are many advantages to newer tractors as you point out,
but in most cases, parts are still available for the N's.
I wish I could help out. I have a block too, but I'm in Michigan.
