when you measure a ballast resistor, be aware that the resistance changes as it heats up. it may read .5 ohms cold but that reading will be higher when it is hot. a regular resistor does not change, or changes very little. the reason for using this type resistor on a ignition is to give you a hotter spark when cranking.as it heats up the extra resistance helps save the coil. if your going to replace a true ballast resistor with a normal resistor , measure its resistance when hot for longest coil life.this throws a lot of folks off, for some reason.
