Swede in IOWA 12-26-2012 13:07:24 207.32.60.213 Report to Moderator	Fella drug a 49 8N front mount over to me. Says can you make it start and run. He "converted " it to 12v neg ground, and installed some kind of electronic ignition.Gets weak spark at plugs . He has 2 resistors in series in the wire feeding the coil.Does not seem right to me but I am not familiar with these electronic ignition deals.Getting 3 + volts on coil wire at coil. Then you can try a resistor with less resistance. A good experiment might be to get a variable resistor aka potentiometer of enough capacity and try starting. Work down from higher to lesser resistance. More resistance = less or no spark, not enough resistance = release the magic smoke. They have magic smoke inside. If it gets away they quit working. I would ask the fellow if it ran after he installed the electronic ignition/when the problem started etc. I have a old ferguson fifty to rewire,for a neighbor .he converted it to a alternator and was running it, when a wire started smoking. instead of pulling the battery cable off he just yanked all the wires out.if he werent a friend of my son i wouldnt mess with it. But until you can tell us the model of the EI unit & the value of the resistors, the chances are very good that just bypassing the resistors will let the smoke out of the EI. Or, simply adopt the 'no guts, no glory' attitude & bypass the resistors. It will probably start & run fine.
