Haven't run my 8N's this winter yet at all. I started the one I rebuilt the engine on this spring plus did a 12 volt conversion and IE. It's about +10F today. Tractor fired right up after setting for over a month without being used. Pretty happy with the rebuild. Even better is the IE and 12 volt conversion!

That sounds great and a great feeling having a new engine. I sure need to get my 8n engine rebuilt as soon as $$ allows me to. Going easy on it until then. Also the 12 volt conversion will be done as soon as my 6 volt battery gives out. All new wireing paint ect I plan to do on mine.

It was zero here in Wisc. today and I had to plow
snow. I dont like to have to start up without
plugging in, but I thought Id try it. It fired once
or twice and I decided to plug it in for a while and
put the charger on to warm the battery. After about
ten minutes I remembered I didnt put an electric
valve on the gas for this tractor and after opening
the gas line it fired right up. The older I get, the
dumber I get. Guess I better get another electric
shutoff from Red Rock. They are the pip.

It's been at least five years since we've been down to +10 degrees, though about ten years ago it got just below zero for a couple nights. So I can't duplicate your EI good starting 8N, but I can continue to be impressed with mine starting and idling so well after EI was installed last spring. It had been converted to 12 volts in the early 90's. I would like to have another that was totally original for show and parades, but the only one I have is just for reliability and work.

Jim, both of mine are workers. The one with the vertical pipe I got this past Aug. It was converted to 12 volt before I got it. I haven't used it much yet and will do a tune up in the spring. I'm tempted to leave it with points so as to have one to compare with the other. O put the vertical exhaust on it so I'm not dragging a hot exhaust through windrows when haying. The other will stay with the under belly system for work in the woods.
